Today I am continuing to follow the Footnotes for the story of Joseph being told by the angel to take Mary and the infant Jesus to Egypt. I left off yesterday in the Footnotes for;
Isaiah 49:3 (IEB): “The Always-Present One told me: ‘Oh Israel, you are My Servant.(b) I will show My glory through you’!”(c)
Following the footnotes for Isaiah 49:3: (b) continued:
And, Christ is the Head of the body, the ekklesia,
Ephesians 1:22-23 (IEB): “God put everything under Christ’s feet. God appointed him to be the Head over all things among the people called out by God (the Greek word is ekklesia, (which is often mistranslated as “church”). This community is Christ’s body. It is the totality of Christ; he completes everything everywhere.”
Colossians 1:18 (IEB): “Christ is the Head of the body, the people called out by God. Christ is the Beginning, the Source – the first one to rise from death so that he could be first in everything.”
Colossians 1:24 (IEB) Paul said: “I am happy, even though I am now suffering for you. Christ did not finish the suffering. I am completing the suffering which was left over. I am doing this in my body for Christ’s body, the called out people of God.”
(c) Compare John 12:28; 13:31-32; 14:13; 16:14; 17:1-5.
John 12:27-28: Jesus is praying to His Father, “My soul is very troubled now. What should I say: ‘Father, save me from this time of suffering.’? No, the reason I came was for this time. Father, bring glory to Your Name! Then a voice spoke from heaven, saying, ‘I have brought glory to it and I will bring glory to it again’.”
John 13:31-32: “After Judas left, Jesus said, ‘Now I (the son of man) am given glory, and in me, God is given glory. Since God is given glory in me, God will give me glory for myself (Jesus was nailed to the cross). And He will do that immediately’.”
John 14:13: “I will do whatever you ask for in my name. The Father will receive glory in the Son.
John 16:14: “He (the Spirit of Truth) will give me glory. He will take what I am saying and will tell it to you.”
John 17:1-5 “After Jesus said these things, he looked up to heaven and said, ‘O Father, the time has come. Bring glory to Your Son, so that Your Son may bring glory to You. You have given him authority over all mankind. To each one that You have given the Son You will give eternal life. This is eternal life: That they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one whom You sent. I have brought you glory on the earth. I finished the work which You gave me to do. Now, Father, give me glory – the glory I had with You when I was with You before the world existed.”
God has given each believer to Christ! To each one He has given eternal life!
